The SourMash Band is an in your face country band that is proud to be the face of the new “Outlaw Movement”. Setting the bar by merging the traditional country sounds of the 70’s outlaw movement with the Texas/Red Dirt sounds of today’s Texas Music Scene, our music mixes the styles and sounds of Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, & Billy Joe Shaver with the modern sounds of artists like Kevin Fowler, Robert Earl Keen, The Randy Rogers Band, Jason Boland, and Pat Green.
Along with original tunes, including Longneck Beer & Long Legged Women, Cry’n Daddy, Down To Mexico, Smithereens, Ride and Wrangle, and Louder Than Words, you will hear the SourMash Band’s take on great country classics “SourMash” style. Our sound will draw dancers to the floor and set the tone for a good time. You never know what will happen at our live shows, but you can bet it will be more fun than the law would allow. With the release of our self-titled CD & first single, Longneck Beer & Long Legged Women, being released to Texas Radio, we are ready to bring the party to a town near you!
Besides SourMash Band originals, our set list pays tribute to the artists that made country music as popular as it is today. Artists like Willy, Waylon, Buck Owens, The Hag, Johnny Rodriguez, Gene Watson, Dwight Yokum, & Eddy Raven are some of the artists that we look up to and always include their songs in our set list. We also play music from current artists like Billy Currington, Blake Shelton, Josh Turner, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Chris Young & we can’t forget Jamey Johnson. We also pay tribute to other Texas & Red Dirt artists like Robert Earl Keen,Billy Joe Shaver, Radney Foster, Jerry Jeff Walker, Kevin Fowler, The DeRailers, & Jason Boland.
We believe that the music we play should not only entertain our fans, but should also be easy to dance to. We all grew up going to dancehall’s such as Vrazel’s Ballroom, Snug Harbor, The Armadillo Ballroom, The Crystal Cowboy, Riverside Hall and Bobby Joe’s Dance Hall. We want today’s generation to enjoy the sounds and style of music we enjoyed in days gone by.
SourMash original songs are heavily influenced by the sounds of the artists mentioned above. Solid country beats with a heavy flavor of steel guitar, they will remind you of a musical style that is hard to find in today’s music. “Long Neck Beer & Long Legged Women” was our first original tune and it describes the days of going to the Armadillo Ballroom low on gas, drinking Lone Star Beer, and dancing with some of the most outstanding ladies in Texas.
“New Best Friend” is the the tale of lost love and drinking, a country tradition. It is a story of becomming best friends with the bottle after the divorce.
“Down To Mexico” offers up an island type country beat that tells of partying in Mexico after a break-up which is a great way to move on. It will make you glad the break up happened. This is a song about relief, not grief.
“Crying Daddy” is about being a divorced dad and will make you cry if you have been there or you smoke too much dope. It tells of how little girls need thier daddy’s as much as they need their moms. As the song says “while I’m driving home tonight, my little girl is on my mind, crying daddy as I walk away”. If you are a divorsed dad with a daughter that you have to drop off after your weekend, you know the feeling, we just put it in words and added music.
“What The Hell’s Happened To My Country” is a play on words that talks about the current path of country music and the blurring of the line between it and pop music. What the hell is going on? Thank God for Jamey Johnson and his attempt to bring country music back to the days of “Jennings & Jones”.
“Louder Than Words” will make you understand that just telling your spouse you love them is not enough sometimes. They have to know you mean it and your actions have to show it. Like one line in the song says, “she did her listening when I wasn’t talking, I guess my actions spoke louder than words”.
Come check out one of our live shows and you will know why we are a crowd favorite. See you soon!
