Sugarland returned to the stage at a jam packed AT&T Center in San Antonio Saturday afternoon (Feb 11). Jackie Gleason was no cowboy, but the Great One would have put it like this about Saturday’s matinee rodeo headliners: How sweet it was!br />
“I feel like we’re on top of a cake,” joked Nettles about the rotating stage. Opening with U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found what I’m Looking For,” Sugarland’s performance at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo delivered their candied pop country harmonies and uplifting fun.
Nettles and company took the time to play an old demo of “Sugar Land,” debut a new song, “Settlin'” and play Bruce Springsteen’s “Fire.”
The highlight of the afternoon: Nettles’ Bob Dylan “Subterranean Homesick Blues” delivery of “Down in Mississippi (Up to No Good).”
Is Sugarland greater than the sum of its old parts? Yes, and much more than its big hits “Baby Girl, “Something More” and the latest crossover single “Just Might (Make Me Believe).” Believe it.
