On the heels of some of the best reviews of his career for his most recent album, What I Really Mean, Robert Earl Keen is releasing his new single, “The Great Hank.” The song will be serviced to mainstream country, Triple A and Triple A non-com radio.
Additionally, Keen will perform the “The Great Hank” during this year’s Americana Honors Awards on September 9th at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. The show will be televised on Great American Country (GAC), and will air on September 26th. The show will also air live on XM Satellite Radio and soon thereafter on Sirius Satellite Radio, BBC Radio 2 and Voice of America.
Time Magazine recently chose “The Great Hank” as one of the “Ten Songs for Late Summer,” stating, “Many a song has been written about Hank Williams, but this is the first in which he plays a bar in drag and his mascara runs. Williams’ fans should give a close listen before they shout for Keen’s scalp; his mix of irony, folk and honky-tonk is a tribute to Hank’s influence.”
Entertainment Weekly writes, “…he shows he’s still funny and acerbic, walking on the odd side with ‘The Great Hank’….” Billboard stated, “‘The Great Hank’ is an expertly told, funny and rueful dream of Williams alive, in drag, in Philadelphia.”
Cable channel Music Choice is in the midst of a multi-platform promotion of Keen’s new album, “What I Really Mean,” and offers exclusive interview and concert footage for over 10 million subscribers. The cable channel also features tracks from Keen’s new album on the Music Choice Today’s Country audio channel for Sprint’s PCS customers.
