Josh Turner’s new album, Your Man, sold over 101,000 copies in its first week to debut at Number One on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. The album entered at Number Two on the Billboard 200 chart just behind Il Divo, ahead of pop superstars Jamie Foxx and Mary J. Blige.
“Clear evidence that Josh’s platinum debut Long Black Train was no fluke. He’s a star, and “Your Man” is a huge hit. We are all very proud,” said Luke Lewis, Co-Chairman of UMG Nashville. Your Man has shattered the first week numbers posted by Long Black Train, proving that fans were eager to hear the more mature and sexy side of Josh Turner. Critics are also embracing the new album calling it “sublime,” and “gorgeous” in New York Times. While a writer from Detroit Free Press claims Turner’s voice is “sounding even richer and deeper” this time around, highlighted by tracks like “‘No Rush’ a partly spoken bedroom ballad that harkens back to Conway Twitty.” Comparisons to Johnny Cash and George Jones are again pouring in, while several writers have deemed Josh the Barry White of country music, noting tracks on the album such as “Your Man,” “No Rush” and “Would You Go With Me.”
When Turner was told he had the #1 country album on the chart he was thrilled. “I am extremely ecstatic and pleased! The support for my music has been overwhelming and I have so many people to thank for that. This has been a great year already and I am looking forward to the rest of 2006. God has carried me from a humble beginning to unthinkable heights. I’m so thankful,” said Turner.
One thing is certain, with the lead single “Your Man” climbing to #8 this week on the Billboard and R&R radio charts and an album sitting at #1 Turner is fine to stand on his own merits.
He has an instantly recognizable voice that stands out from the pack, a voice that many are calling an undeniable gift. It is rich in tone and tambour, with warmth that surrounds and comforts you… and fans can’t get enough of it.
“Though 2006 has only just begun, it’s not to soon to speculate that Josh Turner’s “Your Man” might turn out to be the best mainstream country album of the year.”
