Hee Haw turns 47 today! The show premiered on June 15, 1969, with special guests Charley Pride and Loretta Lynn. Although the uber-corny variety show (pun intended) ended in 1992, it is still loved by viewers from all over, who can still catch it on RFD-TV every Sunday night at 8 PM ET.
The original cast included Buck Owens, Roy Clark, Minnie Pearl, Grandpa Jones and others. Some of the favorite skits include The Cornfield Jokes, KORN Radio, Lulu’s Truck Stop and more.
Many of the jokes and gags have been passed down and recycled down through the present generation, and there is even a new musical written by songwriting superstars Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark called “Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical.”
Fun Facts:
- The creators of Hee Haw were actually from urban Canada – not Rural America like their characters they created.
- Former President George H.W. Bush said in a New York Times interview that he was a fan of the show.
- Hee Haw had many famous guests from Johnny Cash to Dolly Parton to Conway Twitty.
