The hot new MCA Nashville duo Hanna-McEuen played their first gig with their full band Thursday evening, April 28 at L.A.’s famed Roxy club. Hanna-McEuen and their band are locked and loaded and firing live ammunition.
The band, led by Jaime Hanna (son of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Jeff) and Jonathan McEuen (son of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member John), also includes the son of Leon Russell and the son of a member of Supertramp, found a great groove from the start. Hanna-McEuen were confident, loose, and rockin’ the joint, trading guitar licks and blood harmony vocals (they’re cousins) to win over an L.A. crowd, most of whom were just discovering this new act.
Jaime Hanna and Jonathan McEuen are first cousins and sons of identical twin sisters, Rae and Kae. Spending so much time together growing up and always living near each other lent itself to strengthening the bond between the two. In addition, their fathers are Jeff Hanna and John McEuen who have been playing music together for nearly 40 years as founding members of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Thereís an undeniable, identifiable chemistry that the two cousins bring with them, somewhere between brothers and best friends. ìIíve been more in tune with Jaime over the last ten years than anybody, but until now weíve never really gotten to work together professionally, so itís all new and fresh,î McEuen reflects. ìItís like a brand new experience, only you know exactly what it is right away.î
