Gretchen Wilson has been served a copyright infringement notice by the Black Crowes. As reported by Billboard, Wilson, TNT, Sony BMG and publishing company J Money Music were served copyright infringement notices regarding the song “Work Hard, Play Harder.” Lawyers for the Black Crowes claim the track exploits the band’s 1991 hit “Jealous Again.” The song has been used by TNT to promote the television show “Saving Grace.”
“We find the musical verses of Wilson’s song to be such an obvious example of copyright infringement that I expect all parties to reach a relatively quick resolution to avoid litigation,” Crowes manager Pete Angelus says in a statement.

Yes, this is a blatant rip off. But kiddies, you all need to go back and do your homework, because this is not the first time this has happened in the music world and it sure as hell won’t be the last. As for Gretchen, she is a no talent clown. I don’t care if she is laughing all the way to the bank. She’s been a phony her whole career. There is a country legend who made her career out of being a female redneck and it was cool when SHE did it. All Gretchen did was rip her off too. And if y’all don’t know who I am talking about, then you are not TRUE country music fans. – said Eric Smith on Aug 31, 2008
I know who y’all talkin’ ’bout, Eric. After all, compared to you, I’m in the Deep South. But yer right. – said joe on Sep 11, 2008
Come on!! That’s ridiculous. In my opinion, it is NOT a rip off from the Black Crowes. – said Dotti Spina on Jul 31, 2008
Wow. Directly lifted, melody, cadence and all. Total ripoff, and no way she didn’t know it. Tune is still played endlessly on radio. – said BillyJoe on Jul 31, 2008
The Crowes were robbed! Exactly the same as Jealous Again! – said ceedy72 on Aug 01, 2008
