Garth Brooks married Trisha Yearwood December 10 in a private ceremony at their Oklahoma home. Garth and Trisha exchanged vows before family members, said Nancy Seltzer, a publicist for the couple.
“They said it is the perfect Christmas gift to each other and they couldn’t be happier,” Seltzer said.
Brooks proposed to Yearwood in May when he got down on one knee in front of 7,000 fans during the “Legends in Bronze” event at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California.
The marriage is the second for Brooks and the third for Yearwood. Brooks, 43, is credited with widening the genre’s appeal in the 1990s by merging traditional country with honky tonk, pop, folk and rock. His “Ropin’ the Wind” album was the first such country recording to debut at the top of the pop music charts. His new box set, The Limited Series, has gone Platinum, selling over one million boxed sets (six million discs). The boxes set includes three previous albums, a DVD and a Lost Sessions disc that features 11 unreleased songs, including Good Ride Cowboy, Garth’s smash hit tribute to Chris LeDoux.
Yearwood, 40, was named the Country Music Awards female vocalist of the year in 1997 and 1998. Her latest album, Jasper County, featuring the hit “Georgia Rain,” is in stores now.
