As reported by Billboard, Garth Brooks storms the country radio chart at No. 18 with “Good Ride Cowboy,” a tribute to fellow artist Chris LeDoux, who died earlier this year. Under a promotional agreement with Lyric Street, the single was digitally delivered to stations on October 6 and has amassed more than 14 million audience impressions between Thursday and Sunday.
Brooks’ quick start breaks the record for high debuts on the country chart during the Broadcast Data Systems monitored airplay era, set when his controversial 1991 single, “The Thunder Rolls” opened at No. 19. Since that time, the closest any artist has come to breaking Brooks’ earlier record was Gretchen Wilson with “All Jacked Up,” which popped on at No. 21 in August. Anderson Merchandisers has engaged Lyric Street Records to promote the Garth Brooks/Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
project exclusively at radio.
“‘Good Ride Cowboy,’ Garth’s tribute to Chris LeDoux, is the song we’ve chosen to be the first because it symbolizes the project, which is about love and honesty. It’s up-beat, fun, sincere and everything you want music to be,” said Charlie Anderson, CEO, Anderson Merchandisers.
“To say that we are excited about working this Garth single at radio would be an understatement,” said Randy Goodman, President, Lyric Street Records. “As well it’s a testament to the Lyric Street Records staff that Anderson came to us with this opportunity and we look forward to working with our partners at radio.”

Garth Brooks : Good Ride Cowboy lyrics
From the hills of Kaycee, Wyoming
Where life’s wooly and wild
There’s a Navy brat in a cowboy hat
And that Copenhagen smile
And from buckin’ broncs to honky tonks
He always sang a cowboy’s song
We were much too young, havin’ too much fun
As we all sang along
We sang Life’s a Highway
There’s only one way you’re gonna get through it
When she starts to twist be more like Chris
Pull your hat down tight
And just LeDoux it!
When that whistle blows
And that crowd explodes
And them pickup men are at your side
They tell you good ride cowboy, good ride
From gold buckles to gold records
Once again he was spinnin’ ’round
Took the whole world on
And he turned us on to that Western Underground
And from Bareback Jack to This Cowboy’s Hat
The songs were stronger than his pain
He would not slow down from town to town
Like children running thru the rain
We sang Life’s a Highway
There’s only one way you’re gonna get through it
When she starts to twist be more like Chris
Pull your hat down tight
And just LeDoux it!
When that whistle blows
And that crowd explodes
And them pickup men are at your side
They tell you good ride cowboy, good ride
We sang Life’s a Highway
There’s only one way you’re gonna get through it
When she starts to twist be more like Chris
Pull your hat down tight
And just LeDoux it!
When that whistle blows
And that crowd explodes
And them pickup men are at your side
They tell you good ride cowboy, good ride
When we cross that river Jordan,
With St Peter on the other side
Singin’ Good Ride Cowboy, Good Ride!
Say Good Ride Cowboy, Good Ride!
