The fifth annual 100.3 KILT Ten Man Jam was held November 18, 2004 at Houston’s most intimate concert setting, H-Town’s Arena Theatre, with some of the biggest names in country music performing with just their guitars and the stories behind their music.
The 2004 version of the 100.3 KILT Ten Man Jam featured (in alphabetical order) Tracy Byrd, Billy Dean, Kevin Fowler, Pat Green, Tracy Lawrence, David Lee Murphy, Joe Nichols, LeAnn Rimes, Blake Shelton and Travis Tritt. David Lee Murphy opened the show with “Loco” and was then joined onstage by Joe Nichols, who performed “Cool To Be A Fool.” Next up was Billy Dean playing “We Just Disagree,” followed by LeAnn Rimes performing “The Light In Your Eyes.” Tracy Byrd rounded out the first set of performers with “Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo.”
David Lee stirred things up with “Party Crowd,” and Joe featured his new single, “What’s A Guy Gotta Do.” Billy followed with “I Miss Billy The Kid.” LeAnn shined in the spotlight with an incredible rendition of “Blue.” Tracy’s new single “Revenge of a Middle-Aged Woman” rounded out the second part of the first set.
David Lee kicked off part three with his first number one hit, “Dust on the Bottle.” Joe got the crowd on their feet with a rousing sing-along of “Brokenheartsville.” Billy kept up the pace with “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” and LeAnn followed with “How Do I Live.” Tracy concluded part three with “Drinkin’ Bone.”
David Lee, Joe, Billy, LeAnn and Tracy closed the first set in tribute to Ray Charles and Willie Nelson with a majestic rendition of “Seven Spanish Angels.”
After a brief intermission, Blake Shelton kicked off the second set with “Ol’ Red.” Next up was Tracy Lawrence with “Sawdust on Her Halo.” Kevin Fowler then took the stage with “The Lord Loves The Drinkin’ Man.” Travis Tritt followed with ” I’m Gonna Be Somebody,” which he dedicated to Tracy Lawrence. Tracy then told a story of going to see Travis play a club in Alexandria, LA in 1991 (Tracy was on the front row of that show and had sung the song word for word back to Travis.) Travis then introduced his next song, “Anymore” with the story of his experience with the veterans when he filmed the video. Pat Green rounded out part one with “Wave on Way.”
Blake fired up the crowd with “Some Beach” and Tracy followed with a new song, “My World Fell Apart,” which will be included on his next album. Kevin was next with “I Ain’t Drinkin’ Anymore.” Travis took a journey with “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde.” Pat concluded part two with “My Little Heaven.”
The final round started with Blake’s “Playboys of the Southwestern World,” followed by Tracy’s “Paint Me A Birmingham.” Fans were treated to a special treat as Asleep at the Wheel fiddler Jason Roberts performed “Faded Love.” Kevin Fowler brought the crowd to its feet with “Beer Bait & Ammo.” Travis performed “The Pressure Is On,” and Pat finished part three with “Carry On.”
The performers from the first set were then invited back onstage. David Lee, Billy, Tracy, and Joe re-emerged to join Blake, Tracy, Kevin, Travis, and Pat on the Eagle’s “Take It Easy.” The party continued with Hank Jr.’s “Family Tradition” morphing into Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Up Against The Wall Redneck Mother.”

Tracy Byrd – A Beaumont, TX native and a two-year veteran of the KILT Ten Man Jam, Tracy is known for such songs as “Keeper of the Stars,” “I’m from the Country,” “Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo,” and most recently “The Truth About Men” and “Drinkin’ Bone,” featured on his latest album, Truth About Men.
Billy Dean – Billy is a winner of various music awards, such as the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Songwriter of the Year and ACM New Male Vocalist of the Year, as well as a Grammy. Billy is known for such songs as “Somewhere in my Broken Heart,” “Billy the Kid” and most recently “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and “Let them be Little.” Billy Dean’s Greatest Hits was released in 1984. Billy signed a new record deal with Curb Records earlier this year.
Kevin Fowler – A West Texas native and current residence of Austin, Kevin packs clubs all over Texas with his “real, raw and rough” country hits, such as “Beer, Bait and Ammo,” “The Lord Loves the Drinkin’ Man” and “Speak of the Devil.” Kevin just put out his first national release, Loose, Loud & Crazy, featuring his new single “Ain’t Drinkin’ Anymore.”
Pat Green – A San Antonio born, Waco-raised, Austin-based singer/songwriter, Pat recently headlined KILT’s Fall Fandango and performed at this year’s Ten Man Jam for the third time. Pat is known for such songs as “Southbound 35,” “Carry On,” “Three Days,” “Wave on Wave” and most recently “Don’t Break My Heart Again,” which is on his third Republic/Universal release, Lucky Ones.
Tracy Lawrence – Tracy has received numerous accolades, such as Billboard’s Top New Male Vocalist and the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist award. Some of Tracy’s various hits are “Texas Tornado,” “If the World had a Front Porch” and “Time Marches On.” Tracy’s most recent album Strong features the hit single “Paint Me a Birmingham.”
David Lee Murphy – KILT welcomed back David Lee Murphy, who was last in town volunteering his time for KILT’s St. Jude Children’s Hospital Radiothon. David Lee’s debut album, “Out with a Bang,” featured his first Top 10 single “Party Crowd” and his first number one single “Dust on the Bottle.” David Lee’s latest album, Tryin’ to Get There, features the hit singles “Loco” and “Inspiration.”
Joe Nichols – Last fall, Joe was in town for KILT’s Save the Music concert benefiting music education in public schools. KILT decided to bring him back for this year’s Ten Man Jam. The Academy of Country Music (ACM) named Nichols its Top New Male Vocalist of 2003. Country Music Television (CMT) named “Brokenheartsville” the year’s Breakthrough Video. Joe also received Best New Artist of 2003 by the readers of Radio & Records Magazine, as well as Billboard Magazine’s Top New Country Artist of 2002 for “The Impossible.” Joe’s newest hit single is “If Nobody Believed in You” from his latest album, Revelation.
LeAnn Rimes – At the mere age of 13, LeAnn’s debut album “Blue” (1996) earned her a pair of Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Country Female Vocal for the title track. LeAnn is also the youngest person to win the Country Music Association’s Horizon Award and Best Country Singer. LeAnn is also known for such songs as “Blue,” “Can’t Fight the Moonlight,” “How Do I Live,” “One Way Ticket (Because I Can)” and most recently “Nothin’ Bout Love Makes Sense.” LeAnn’s new studio album, This Woman will be in stores Tuesday, January 25, 2005.
Blake Shelton – Two weeks out of high sch
ool, Blake moved to Nashville at the age of 17 to concentrate on his music. His debut single, “Austin,” stayed on Billboard’s single chart for five weeks at number one, tying Billy Ray Cyrus’ record for a debut single. Blake’s single “The Baby,” reached number one for three weeks in 2003. Blake’s most recent songs are “Playboys of the Southwestern World,” and “Some Beach” from his new album, Blake Shelton’s Barn & Grill.
Travis Tritt – Travis’s career span has bestowed upon him numerous platinum records, the Country Music Association’s (CMA) Horizon Award and induction into the Grand Ole Opry. Travis is known for such songs as “Strong Enough to be your Man,” “It’s a Great Day to be Alive,” “Best of Intentions,” his duet with John Mellencamp, “What Say You,” and most recently for “The Girls Gone Wild” from his latest album, My Honky Tonk History.
