Bob Romeo, executive director of the Academy of Country Music, and Jack Lameier, ACM board member, presented a check for $76,919.00 to the T.J. Martell Foundation on behalf of the Academy of Country Music Charitable Fund on July 11, 2006 at the T.J. Martell Foundation Board of Directors meeting in Burbank, CA. The Academy of Country Music Charitable Fund with the partnership of the T.J. Martell Foundation raised over $155,000 at the Academy of Country Music Celebrity Golf Classic and New Artists Show Auction on Monday, May 22, 2006.
The Academy of Country Music Celebrity Golf Classic, hosted by MCA Recording Artist Vince Gill, was held at Cascata, a premier golf course designed by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones. Cascata opened in 2000 and is already celebrated as one of the finest designs in the world. The golf classic was sold out with 104 players. Some of the celebrities included Keith Burns (Trick Pony), Kevin Carter, Pat Green, and Clay Walker.
During the New Artists Show held on Monday, May 22, 2006 at MGM Grand, a silent and live auction was held to give country music fans the opportunity to bid on unique one-of-a-kind items. One of the items in the live auction was the opportunity to go backstage immediately following the 41st Academy of Country Music Awards with Storme Warren, host of “Country Music Across America” on GAC and interview the award-winning artists. Margie Geddes, a T.J. Martell Foundation supporter, paid $25,000 for her cameo role on camera. The opportunity to attend a Kenny Chesney concert anywhere in the United States plus a backstage meet and greet also raised a substantial amount totaling $46,000.
