The Third Annual CMA Music Festival Kick-Off Parade will be held in Downtown Nashville on Wednesday, June 5, 2007 at 2:30 PM/CT, followed by “The Second Annual CMA Music Festival Block Party” from 3:30-8:00 PM/CT.
“These two events continue to grow in popularity with our attendees as well as residents of Nashville and the surrounding communities who work Downtown,” said CMA Chief Operating Officer Tammy Genovese. “The Parade and Block Party are a great way to jump start four days of terrific entertainment, activities and fun.”
Spectators are sure to enjoy “The Third Annual CMA Music Festival Kick-Off Parade” with Grand Marshall Darryl Worley, leading the way. The procession features artists and celebrities riding in some of the hottest Chevrolet cars and trucks, specialty vehicles, and a one-of-a-kind Chevy Country Music Silverado. Additional Kick-Off Parade elements include drum corps from Hillwood and Hunters Lane high schools, the Girl Scouts, Michael Peterson and a New Holland tractor, and the Chevy street team handing out fun freebies.
The Kick-Off Parade route will take the four-wheeled procession from the starting point at Broadway and Sixth Avenue, down Broadway to Fourth Avenue South, turning right on Demonbreun, up to Fifth Avenue, turning right and ending at Fifth Avenue and Broadway. Some of the participants recently added to the Kick-Off Parade include XM Satellite Radio personality Jon Anthony, Cole Deggs & The Lonesome, Lantana, “Nashville Star” winner Angela Hacker and her brother and fellow finalist Zac Hacker, Beverley Mitchell, Rissi Palmer, NASCAR driver Brent Sherman (No. 36 Big Lots! Chevrolet), Van Zant, Bryan White, Kyle Wyley, and Chris Young. Participants previously announced include Blue County, Jason Michael Carroll, Jennifer Hanson, Pirates of the Mississippi, PovertyNeck Hillbillies, Pam Tillis, Tanya Tucker, Two Foot Fred, and NASCAR drivers Scott Wimmer (No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet) and Shane Huffman (No. 88 NAVY Chevrolet).
Immediately following the Downtown Parade, the high-octane party continues at the free “Second Annual CMA Music Festival Block Party,” on the plaza at The Sommet Center, formerly the Nashville Arena, on Broadway and Fifth Avenue South.
Artists scheduled to perform on the Chevy Music Tour Stage at the Block Party include Jason Michael Carroll, Elizabeth Cook, Jennifer Hanson, and Darryl Worley. Recently added to the list of Block Party performers is multi-Platinum, fan favorite Mark Chesnutt, who is scheduled to close the Block Party; Joanna Cotten; and Cowboy Troy, who will open the festivities.
Multi-Platinum, multiple-CMA Award winner Chesnutt is no stranger to CMA Music Festival crowds. He has had 17 singles hit Top 5 on the Billboard Country singles chart and four of his albums have sold in excess of a million copies. His latest project, Heard it in a Love Song, on CBuJ Entertainment, was released in September.
Raised in the small town of Forrest City, Ark., Warner Bros. Records artist Cotten knew at age 4 that she wanted to be a Country Music singer. Cotten attended The Juilliard School in New York City, but she could not stay away from Music City. Her love of Nashville, Country Music and performing is the driving force behind her upcoming debut CD High Maintenance.
This marks Cowboy Troy’s second year to participate in the Block Party. In 2006, he hosted the event which drew more than 3,000 fans. Cowboy Troy’s new Warner Bros. Records CD Black in the Saddle will be released Tuesday.
The Block Party is just the start of four days of live music on the Chevy Music Tour Stage with a variety of performances, including showcases of Bluegrass and Latin Country Music.
Now in its 36th year, CMA Music Festival will be held on Thursday through Sunday, June 7-10, in Downtown Nashville. Dubbed the “crown jewel of Country Music festivals” by USA Today and winner of the International Entertainment Buyers Association‚Äôs 2006 LIVE! Award for Festival of the Year, the event features four jam-packed days of music with more than 400 artists and celebrities, 100 hours of concerts, 30 hours of organized autograph signings, family activities, celebrity sports competitions, and much more.
